Are my contributions anonymous?
Absolutely. You do not need to register or login. You don't even need to give us your email address. When reviewing a property, you can give us as much or as little information as you like.
Can I review a property even if I didn't end up signing a lease?
Yes. In fact we encourage it. Some landlords engage in extremely misleading practices, such as price baiting, false advertising, and rental auctioning. Be sure to write your experience so that others can avoid these pitfalls.
What can I do with Rent Reviews Australia?
On this website, you can search or contribute to renters' experiences with the:
- Application process (even if unsuccessful)
- surroundings of rental properties, including inconsiderate neighbours, heavy traffic or other nuisances
- condition of rental properties
- treatment of tenants by the landlord or management agency
What is the objective of the Rent Reviews project?
The price of rental properties are primarily driven by location. However, tenancy is a service industry, and pricing must take into account the service (or lack of) provided to the tenants. Given the option, tenants can increase or reduce offers for particular properties if they are better informed about the landlord and the property they are applying for.
Agency websites that list properties do not contain the depth of information that is crucial for leasing. Even upon inspection, nuisances like noisy neighbours, barking dogs, traffic and helicopter noises cannot be determined. This information can only obtained from a tenant who has had experience with the property.
Our objective is to better inform tenancy applicants. Location is important, but it isn't everything. Before signing a long term lease with a landlord, check to see what you are really paying for.
How can I contribute?
Let us know about your previous experiences with rental properties. This will allow thousands of potential applicants to benefit from your experience. If you have enjoyed your rental experience at a particular property, tell others about it. On the other hand, if you have been grossly mistreated by your landlord or agency, do not let it happen to others.
